There's a brilliant place called the Poetry Library, in London.
Have a browse on their website: a great place to start is
"frequently asked for poems"

with some lovely examples to get you off to a flying start.
And the Poem Hunter website may be another good one for you, because you can search for poems from their keywords list (everything from "alone" to "world"!) Also check out their "top 500 poems" -- or some of them, at least!

Why not try www.poemhunter.com as they have an extensive range of poetry. If you add a comment to specify what type of poem you would like, maybe I could recommend one to you (from my own collection). Good luck and enjoy! Why not write one yourself... That would be a wonderful gift to your friend.
