Aligators are in the southern U.S. different states. Crocodiles are from Australia...South America, Africa and different places, but as far as I am aware they are not native to North America. People may buy them when small as pets ..but a grown one is another matter.Some have been flushed down toilets, taken out to a local pond or river and let go. They are cold blooded and would never survive the northern winters.

The American Alligator ranges through the Carolinas, but the crocodile is restricted to southern Florida.

Yes there is. I lived on the coastal area of NC for a couple years and heard and seen them in the swampy areas surrounding the Pamlico Sound and Alligator river inland from Manteo.

Yes,in some estuaries near the Blue Ridge Mountains. I guess people would get them as pets and when they saw that they were really dangerous creatures they let them go in the ponds and rivers.
