i bought a digital camera from a seller who runs an ebay shop just before Christmas. The camera had a number of faults and so i returned the camera using special delivery complying with the refund policy on the sellers website. I had to open a dispute with paypal as the seller made no attempt to reimburse me. He told me to close the dispute and he would refund me however i refused to do so. He is now willing to offer me a partial refund though this is £12 short of what i paid for the item.

Should i accept this offer? I know £12 isn't a large amount and i'm tempted to accept but its the principle of the offer. He has p*ssed me about for over a month but i'm worried that if i don't accept then i will not receive any refund. please help!

Poor you!
Keep pressing for a full refund. You are due this as the goods were faulty.
1. Continue with the dispute through Paypal. As you sent the goods back with proof of delivery, they will refund you.
2. Also, report him to ebay as a "non-performing seller" -- this will earn him a "strike" -- an official black mark against his seller's reputation (like points on a driver's licence: too many and you're banned).
3. Please, when the whole thing is over, leave him negative feedback. That way, other bidders can be forewarned. Make sure you stick just to the facts in your feedback, don't get emotional.

You'll get lots more help from other (very expert) ebayers if you sign into the ebay community boards and go to "Ebay Q&A". Don't be put off that many apparently have 0 feedback: most people there use posting IDs to keep trolls away from their main ebay IDs.
Here's the link for the ebay Q&A board:

Good luck with the dispute.

I think I would keep going; if the item is faulty and he's offered any kind of refund at all, then he knows he's at fault. I'd keep pursuing it through eBay, even if they don't reimburse you, sellers like him need to be taught that they can't just treat people any kind of way. You may not get a refund, and that would be unfortunate, but definitely don't give up your dispute, and make sure others on eBay know of your experience with this seller.

He has the camera and wants you to accept a partial refund? Rubbish. Hopefully you paid with Paypal. Contact both PayPal and Ebay about this and lodge disputs. It is not even a matter of money at this time, it is about a seller making good,.

I'm assuming you bought via Paypal. If you did they should be able to help you get a full refund. I've had to do this twice and soon as the dispute has been opened I have been paid in full. You should be protected under Paypal so email them for help.

No. Do not accept. Goto Paypal and get your full payments. Contact Pay pal over phone and request help. Their No is +1-402-935-2081. I can give you a link that deals with Payapl & Ebay transactions through Paypal. PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. It is now a part of the online auction website eBay. More details available at

I would pursue a full refund if the goods were faulty. Once you agree an offer of any kind you will have no comeback. The small claims court would be the next step and I think the thought of this will make him think again!

No. He provided you with an item which was not fit for purpose and therefore you are entitled to a full refund. If you continue with the dispute, paypal should refund you the money, then try and recover it themselves.

Stick with the dispute with e-bay then he will have to answer to them. E-bay will take the money from his account if need be and he wont want bad feed back over this. He is trying to pull a fast one - dont accept anything from him.

Fellow E-bayer

You can either take it to a small claims court, which takes time and money, and he will leave bad feedback on you.
Or accept his offer and leave bad feedback for him, this is the only problem with ebay when you get a problem with bad sellers you cant just go back into the shop and sort it.
Good luck.

Just stick with it
He is trying to avoid a strike from Payal.
Paypal will pay you back in full and claim it from him.
just make sure you respond when requested to and you supply paypal with all the info they ask for.
