Try a wig on the same colour as you have in mind.

you're right to be concerned, black isnt for everyone, it can be very draining, i have dyed black hair myself, i use blue/black. Several of the more well known hair dye manufacturers do black with a hint-usually blue, red, or purple, these give a nice shiney finish rather than a flat matt black, contrary to what people will tell you, you cant dye over the top of black hair once you've done it if you dont like it, it will ruin your hair, your complexion sounds ideal for black hair though, go into a large department store and try on a wig-it will give you an idea of what you will look like, good luck

Yes there is a variety of shades of black you can buy. I have naturally jet black hair and i think you shoud stick to a dark brown. Dying your hair black is like putting bleach in it. Its very hard to get rid of it. No matter how much you dye over it, it still comes thorugh your own colour once you have washed your hair a couple of times.
Unless you really want to see what you would look like with black hair, try a "wash in wash out" colour, or a semi permanent colour.

Like someone mentioned try a wig first. Black is a very hard colour and can change the look of your face. It often make people look hardfaced and scary. Maybe dark-brown but then again that often comes out blackish as well. Nooo, try a wig on first or ask a posh hairstylist to help you with advice. :)))

I understand what you mean, that you do not want to look completely faded out by such a dark colour, look at my links below for a few options...

http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=X39&p=78&o=1
This suit shown on the right is a brown skirt suit, You play the look with a tanned bag and shoes, just like the model is wearing.

http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=X39&p=4&o=1
This skirt suit is a black and white patterned style, simply by adding a darker tight and more darker top. You can not look faded out as much.

http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=X39&p=30&o=1
Again shown on the right, the model wears a grey pinstriped style trouser suit, here shirt underneath is of a light pink colour, to make the suit look more lighter, silver jewellery worn in ears and a nice bracelet can add a little element to it.

Hope it helps

When I was much younger I always wanted to be blond. Having a very fair complexion and dark eyes, my mum said it wouldn't suit me. I didn't believe her until I tried on a blond wig. I looked awful, about 20 years older! Since then I don't want to be blond. Trying a wig does work, it'll give you a very realistic idea of what you'd look like.

There are shades of black available, red\black and blue\black, but try a mouse first, so that if your not happy you can wash it out, permanent will only grow out in a few months, maybe a ear if you dont want to cut it short....

I was told by a hairdresser not to dye my hair black as no-one has black hair, those who look like they do are all really dark brown, so it will look well un-natural....unless thats what you were hoping for...
