Video games have negatives and positives. Anything you do in life, be it working, going to school etc.
Pros:
+Increases reflexes
+Thumb power
+Relaxing
+Some games make you smarter
Negatives:
As for violent games, recently there was a man who had a young child (17 months I believe) and he was playing his Xbox 360 and his daughter pulled the cord and made it fall to the ground. Thinking it was broken he threw his duaghter into a car and beat her to death. That was horrible...
Playing too much video games can also make you fat, dumb and lazy, that's the sterotype. If someone plays video games for 6+ hours everyday instead of doing other things it can have a lot of negatives on someone. Instead of studying, playing video games all day everyday can make you forget.

pros: logic, analytical skills, hand-eye coordination, hand dexterity in general, relaxation, and they're fun...I was actually 'prescribed' a videogame console as a child when I was diagnosed with a 'reversal problem' - dyslexia - and it helped :)
The cons of video games are the same as any other hobby or habit. Its videogames thats getting the rap now, but its nothing we havent heard before: movies, tv, rock music, heavy metal, D&D, books, religion...
Some people do have addicitve personalities and tend to take things to extremes, but in those cases if it wasnt videogames they were fixating on, it would just be something else. Most people would agree that a glass one wine with dinner is harmless, perhaps even healthy; whereas drinking a couple bottles is not. Its the same with anything else - moderation.
I'll say the same for violent videogames as well - for those who have one foot firmly planted in reality, they are fun and a great way to release some steam. I know after a bad day at work or school, I find fragging a boatload of zombies they way to go. :) HOWEVER, again, when we have people who obsess over it and dont seem to know the difference between what is real and what isnt - thats a problem. But it isnt a problem with the game, its a problem with the player.
I should know, Ive been playing over 30 years now. :) I also worked with criminal juveniles for quite a few years...and just from talking with the kids, the violent offenders didnt play videogames (or 'violent' videogames) any more than any other population did.
So, as far as I'm concerned, the whole "videogames are addictive and bad" thing is just pure crap. If you are playing Grand Theft Auto and suddenly decide to go beat up hookers and shoot random people, or if you are listening to heavy metal and suddenly decide suicide is your thing, then you needed help long before this point and theres no sense blaming it on them when it's *you* that cant handle reality. There have been people throughtout history who have done crazy things based on religious beliefs, tvs books, movies, are we going to ban it all?

Well I believe that Video games are very addicting. Before I met my fiance, I barely played any games except nintendo with my brother lol. When I met my fiance he introduced me to online games and MMORPGs. About 4 years ago I started with Ultima Online, once I started playing I didn't want to stop. It was so much fun (to me). Then 2 years later World of Warcraft came out or as I would like to call it Warcrack because I got addicted to this game right away. Its so addicting that I dream of it when Im sleeping, think about it at work, and always try to keep busy at work so my day goes by fast so I can come home to play.
This might sound pathetic to people who don't play the game and hey I feel the same way at times but its an addiction. The Pro's about playing games like these in my opinion is the fact that I know Im staying out of trouble (partying and doing stupid crap that I shouldn't be doing) if Im playing the game. When Im upset or had a bad day at work I can take my frusteration out on people in the game by killing them lol. The cons about being a gamer is well it takes your real life away. I barely see my friends, I have trouble sleeping, I hardly go outside anymore unless I really have to. Im no longer a big fan of sunlight. Sounds kinda depressing but I can't help it. I tried to quit so many times but I keep going back. I love it though and Im having a lot of fun! I just wish I could get my social life back in order. Oh well..these are my opinions, hope they gave you a good incite of a female gamer's point of view =)

I am quite addicted to gaming since I was young and found it to be a very good source of release. Some people say the games I play are quite violent but at least I don't take out my frustration on others. At the most, I imagine the person as a character in the game and go after them to relieve my stress

keep doing what you like to do but not too much, i mean at the point you don't live your life and you only play video games. go out with friends, study if you have to. meet with people, workout some times. but playing video games isn't bad. i think you'll maybe find someone who loves video games too.

I always like to say that video games put you in an "alternate reality", this "reality" takes you away from the stress in real life. But in the violent video games the alternate reality may influence you to do violence as well... it's rare but most people just play video games just like others may smoke cigarettes. It's all to erase the stress for a little while.

If you are addicted (as I am) these are what I feel the pros and cons are:
Pros- improve hand eye coordination, can help with memory, and great stress relief.
Cons- Sleep deprivation, can impede on your daily thoughts (gotta get home and try to beat that next level), and can lay waste to a social life.
I am sure there are tons more pros and cons, but I thought three of each should be good.

games are fun you get addic...i get addicted to free roam/story line type of games like all GTA's for instance but still everyones not the same some people like music some people dont some people like games some people dont every one likes different things its there style or life style and it's fine foe them but when your playing a game you really need to keep an eye on the clock you could start a game in the morning and end the next morning without knowing how long you've been up but some people like that and its not good for you but people like not going to play outside and you get hooked on that life style and there used to it and thats how you become addicted....................i guess...................

Playing video games can increase the speed of your reflexes, and generally isn't much of a problem unless and until it interferes with your social life, or your job, or your schoolwork, or causes issues like carpal tunnel or eyestrain. Its a lot more interactive (and I think more fun) than TV, but does not give you the exercise that say, sports would.

video games are just fun. im addicted to Fifa07. seriously, i cant stop playing it once i get started. The thing about playing video games is that you have to learn how to manage your time. you'll find that time goes by amazingly fast when you play a game, so its important to set a time limit as to how much you can play
