A psychologist, depending on their specialization, will mainly be counseling individuals and offer guidance in people's problems. Anyone can go to a psychologist, with any sort of problem that affects us pshychologically, be it insomnia, stress, self esteem issues, not being able to cope with the death of someone close and so on.
A psychiatrist specializes in a different area of the mind study. One should go to a psychiatrist if they have a serious illness, and although sometimes a psychologist can direct a patient to a psychiatrist, we might not always realize that what we suffer from is a mental ilness, but eventually a doctor, counselor or friend could send us to the right person. Psychiatrists treat illnesses and disorders such as schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depersonalization, histeria, manic-depressive disorder, and so on.
If you see a person on the streets, that yells, laughs loudly, picks on people, sings or tells poems, that individual might either be very happy or he should see a psychiatrist.
If you can't cope with the amount of homework you have, if you can't concentrate to what you have to do, if work is stressful and you can't get any sleep because of it, if you are unhappy with your life or have suicidal thoughts, you should talk to a psychologist.
Hope my answer was clear enough.

No, a psychiatrist has gone to medical school and can prescribe psychiatric medications. Psychologists do not go to medical school...however, I do remember reading a news article about a year ago saying that the gap between the fields of psychology and psychiatry is getting smaller...in some states psychologists are being allowed to prescribe medications. That's pretty much the only difference between psychologists and psychiatrists.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor as well, which can be helpful to see the whole picture so to see... 'cause a lot of time our mental health will affect our physical health and the other way around. A psychologist has only the psychology degree.

no they are not a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has gone through medical school and training as a medical resident in a hospital in psychiatry. A psychologist can be a social worker
who has a degree in psychology can have a master's or PH.D in psychology. I have had a mental illness since I was 18 and am 48 now and this was explained to me by a psychologist.

Psychiatrists listen to what you have to say then give you logical answers to it.. example- I went to my psychiatrist for a scheduled visit I was not having a good day I told him how I was feeling he asked if I was experiencing any hallucinations I said no his reply Ive just got you on a bad day then ok keep taking your mediction and I,ll see you in a month...
Psychologists ask how you are feeling once you describe this to them they get to work on what is causing these feelings they get right inside your head and help you to deal and cope with these feelings through breathing, positive thought and ways of releasing your feelings in a positive way... So they beleive that your actually feeling anger, sad, overwhelmed and any other feelings we have they get to the root of what is causing it and help you to cope , face up to it and deal with it in the future...
Psychiatrists study the brains functions take schizophrenia symptoms show abnormalities in the brain in certain areas...
Ive read this book The early course of schizophrenia they have done numerous aspects of research to discover how schizophrenia occurs now when does the brain and the mind become seperate.. If you tell a psychiatrist you are hearing voices they will tell you its not happenining why cant I hear it then if you say you are seeing things but when you go to touch them they arent there they say its hallucinations...
Where does the brain and the mind come togther to cause this to happen?
psychologists on the other hand work on emotions and feelings and how to assert to positive thinking to resolve these feelings in a way its all to do with the mind and imagination and not controling the thought process.. A psychologist will notice if you need psychiatric help... A psychiatrist will decide the best treatment for your condition i.e. medication...
In this way both practices are connected.. It depends on what the individual needs...

It's not your fault if you're depressed. Just something crazy going on in your brain. I have two psychiatrists. I'm on happy pills. After years and years of being depressed, finally getting some help was wonderful. Being officially diagnosed was even nice because it simply meant it's not my fault, I didn't ask to be depressed and I didn't cause it. Depending on your type of depression, you might not even need anti-depressants at all. Or if you do, it might only be for a short time. You don't need to tell everyone, anyways. Not their business, right? You don't need to tell your teachers or your parents or your friends. You can keep this to yourself if you want to, just between you and your doctors. You don't need to worry about this. It'll only make it worse. Just be glad you're getting help before it got worse, way worse (think suicide, self harm worse). If you need to talk, message me. <3
