'Bloody Sunday in Derry' non-fiction,can't remember the author though,twas a well put together with witness accounts and very informative.

Joan Lingard wrote a couple of teen books about 'the Troubles'. There's also No Bones by Anna Burns - also covers The Troubles. Roddy Doyle has written the Barrytown trilogy based in Dublin.

I remember reading a book callede Jig, years ago, brilliant. But it was probably 15 years ago, don't know if you could still get it.
I wonder if the film 'the wind that shakes the barley' was taken from a book, but thats all about the foundation of the Irish Free State, so would be worth a read.

How Many Miles to Babylon? -Jennifer somebody. Set around one of the world wars. Can't think of any modern ones at the mo.
By the sound of things, u might enjoy Charades - its about corruption of gardaà in Donegal from the point of view of a victim.

mauve binchy books are pretty good, not totally about ireland though (novels) about places and people hope this helps
