Both have been very heavily criticized;should they be, because they are lowbrow, rubbished? Does somebody else answer no?

Gene Roddenberry was the creator of 'Star Trek', but he was not the man who made it great. It was the writers who made the show! And a fan-base that brought the show back from the grave more than one time.

Irwin Allen was the king of the disaster movie and series. 'Lost in Space', 'Land of the Giants', 'Towering Inferno', 'The Posidon Adventure', & 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea'. All classics and original!

Well, you can't "see" either of them, as they are both dead.
Both were creators of TV sci-fi (Allen - Lost in Space, Roddenberry - Star Trek). They were heavily criticised because their shows did not appeal to the masses. Only a certain type of audience were drawn to them.
Both of them, though, have inspired generations into designing todays and tomorrows technologies, and getting people to look up at the stars in wonder at what might be out there.

Given today's cultural crap, I wish for the days of Roddenberry and Allen. Of course, their productions had flaws, but these flaws were greatly overshadowed by excellent qualities. Roddenberry and Allen did one very important thing -- they never bored me.

I liked both of their works. I suppose looking at some of the things they came out with would be dated by today's standards and they had to work with budgets, hence the cheap costumes and sets. I think they got good audience figures at the time.
