There are three general cloud types. Clouds are a combination and variations of the three general types. Some variations of the three general types are altocumulus and alto stratus.

There are two (i think) basic forms (stratus and cumulus) in three altitudes (Strato[?], Alto and Cirrus)

Cumulus: cotton shaped, has a flat bottom (usually), Represents pleasant weather
Stratus: A sheet of clouds, fog falls into this catagory. It usually represents high humidity and upcoming rain
Nimbostratus: That is like a thunder head (maybe thats nimbocumulus) It stretches out higher in to the sky. From the side it looks like some kind of disfigured anvil

There's alto stratus and alto cumulus but i can't remember what they look like or anything much about them. Just that they are between the lowest level and the highest level

Cirrus clouds are thin and look like strands of hair. Clouds that are in this level have the prefix Cirro-. The unique thing about these types of clouds is that they are so high in the air, the water molecules that form the clouds freeze into tiny ice crystals.

For each form of cloud in each of the three levels, there are many variations for each one, creating inumerable types of clouds.

There are ten internationally recognised cloud types. These occur in three levels Low, Middle and High level cloud. The types are:
Low
Stratus (St)
Stratocumulus (Sc)
Cumulus (Cu)
Cumulonimbus (Cb

Middle
Altocumulus (Ac)
Altostratus (As)
Nimbostratus (Ns)

High
Cirrus (Ci)
Cirrocumulus (Cc)
Cirrostratus (Cs)

Cloud reporting further divides the clouds into 9 types for each level. If I remember correctly, the low clouds are
1. Cumulus of small vertical extent
2. Cumulus of large vertical extent
3. Cumulonimbus without an anvil
4. Stratocumulus formed by the spreading out of cumulus
5. Stratocumulus
6, Stratus of fair weather
7. Stratus of bad wether
8. Cumulus and stratocumulus with bases at different levels
9. Cumulonimbus with an anvil

Middle and high level clouds are similarly divided into nine types each.

There are particular forms of cloud which don't make it into the twenty seven classifications such as pileus caps and mammatus but these are usually covered by one of the other types.

Listed below are the different types of clouds:

1. Big white puffy ones (my personal favorite)
2. Really thin ones that look like a thin layer of smoke
3. Grey, ugly storm clouds (these scare me)

Nimbus, cumulus, strato-cirrus(?) - can't remember the rest. It's easy to look up, though!
