I am a teacher and have been for 8 years now. My second job is as an EMT on the the ambulance here in our town. I work 12-24 shifts when I am able. EMS is new to me, but I love the change. Its really nice to be around adults and to feel like I am making a difference. In teaching, I don't feel as tho what I do matters much anymore.

Wow, is this a joke? Are you seriously angry about a teacher meeting his family's needs responsibly by working 2 jobs. He probably also has a summer job, too, by the way. I don't think you have a clue about what you are talking about. I think the teacher you speak of was very diligent to respond to your call in less than 24 hours. As a teacher, I have 26 kids and their parents to tend to - how can you expect a teacher to be available to you personally 24/7? Are you saying that a teacher's free time is not his/her own to do with what he/she chooses? A teacher is a human being who has rights. You are being completely unreasonable. P.S. When a teacher has a student do extra work at recess, it is not meant to be a punishment. It is so the child will get a better score on the paper (having more of it completed). If the teacher did not give this extra time during recess, it could affect the students' learning and grade.
