= (27.5 cm- 10cm ) / 3.5 cm/week
= 17.5 cm/ 3.5 cm/week
= 5 weeks
*cm unit cancels out and what's left is week

As some one mentioned, plants don't grow linearly (for that matter we too don't grow linearly). But for the sake of this problem, we need to assume that the data given is correct. So, it grows at the rate of 3.5 cm per week. So, to grow from 27.5 cm from the present height of 10 cm, it needs
(27.5 - 10)/3.5 = 17.5/3.5 = 5 weeks
I suggest that you attempt such problems by trying a tabular approach. For example,
Time Plant Height in cm
Now 10
After 1 week 13.5
After 2 weeks 17
That way, you can solve the problem without setting up an equation but then it takes too much time and then the concept will not get in. This type of data is of the form
y = mx + c where x is a variable (time in this case), y is another variable (Plant height in this case) , m is the slope of the curve (a straight line) and c is a constant.
27.5 = 3.5x + 10
By solving for it you need to find x. That is what we have done above. For example. to solve this equation, we take
3.5x = 27.5 - 10 (note the change in sign for 10) = 17.5
Therefore x = 17.5 / 3.5 = 5
the unit is weeks. So the answer is 5 weeks.
There are graphical solutions also and the equation y = mx + c represents a straight line.
Best wishes.

If it has grown to 10 cm already, then you can subtract that from your rquired value.
So 27.5 - 10 =17.5
You need to divide 17.5 by 3.5
This gives you 5.
If the plant is already 10 cm tall then it suggests it has been growing for 3 weeks already, so in totally it will take 8 weeks to reach 27.5cm!

To begin with i would like to state for the record i do not consider the use of drugs is healthful, however I do consider that every body should have the correct to smash their lives making use of medications in the event that they need to, so long as they do not harm any person or another residing creature. Secondly why would you ask here, as if this position would have a hardcore dope growing stoner to give you the right answer, while you would in general in finding the proper answer by means of reading a few articles on the field, without drawing ample warmness to roast a pig ;-)? Now to reply your query about “one of the crops has traditionally white pistils, but also has a few purple ones.” NO it way the vegetation which can be turning pink are doing so since the soil is missing a nutrient, I are not able to tell you what this nutrient is when you consider that its been many many years considering I learn it in an editorial!

5 weeks
see. the plant is now 10 cm.
the difference between 27.5 cm and 10 cm is 17.5 cm. if the plant grows 3.5 cm per week then it is 17.5 / 3.5 = 5 weeks

Present height =10cm
target height =27.5cm
therefore height yet to cover = 27.5-10 cm =17.5cm
17.5/3.5=5 weeks

for the plant to grow 10cm tall the time is 20/7 weeks.
total time taken to the plant to grow to 27.5cm is 55/7 weeks.
hence for the plant to grow from 10cm to 27.5cm, the time taken is: (55/7)-(20/7) = 35/7 = 5weeks.
