I'm an account manager at an advertising agency. My cousin is the owner, I've been her 10 years and I'm 26.
It seems like it's the same thing over and over again day in day out. I dread going in because it's just going o be exactly like the day before!
I have been investing in property for the past 6 years and have enough money to live for the next few years without working, but I have no idea of what I want to do. I feel like I'm burnt out! I want to travel etc. but am scared of what will happen when I return.
And after 10 years, I've realised that I am not actually the 'sales person' type, I don't think you can be a nice person deep down and still be a sales man who lies to get bookings.
What I don't want to do is to go in to a lower paid job, i earn 30k at the moment, and this is really what I need to maintain my flat, car, and lifestyle etc.
Any ideas?
Thank you

Try staffing agency, they will guide you to find position that fits your requirement. 30k is easy to get if you're working in management level. For the corporate world, even regular full time clerk kan make that much. Good luck.

I think Adecco is big in Europe, I don't know which country you live.

You are 26! Your whole life is still in front of you. No wonder you are unhappy, working since you are 16 in the same job and you do not even like it. First of all I would go to some job consulting firms. They will let you go through some tests and define what you are talented or qualified for. Maybe they will suggest you learn something? I guess you did not have much education if you started working at 16? After you know more about yourself, go backpacking. Do what millions of youth your age do before they settle down with a wife, children mortgage debts etc. Travel for 6-12 month meantime enroll into university so when you get back you know you have a plan. I understand you want to earn 30K but how? If you go back to the same job you will end up a depressed person, you will be soon 40 or 50 and look back at your life an feel you wasted it. Go for it, travel, meet new people ,get new ideas, live! We have one life, don't waste it.

Have you thought about taking a year off to teach English as a second language in a foreign country. You don't necessarily need teachers qualifications and you meet lots of different people from different backgrounds. The pay's not great but you can choose where you go and work part or full time as you wish. Every day is different and you feel useful. It'd get you out of a rut and change your ideas a little without the uncertainty of just taking off with no plans.

OK.. I feel you. There are times when I too want to take a break.

You should take a break and see what else you can do.
Are you the creative type. Perhaps you should take some creative classes overseas and see where your strenght lies.

At 26, if you have no ties to keep you in one place, travel is a good option. Go abroad for a few years. You sound like someone who might enjoy doing voluntry work in Africa or Asia?

Yes being burnt out can really get ya there. You said you have enough money to live the next few years without working so quit your job and find a great job within the next few years doing something as great as that one. Also, a job isnt about the "type" of person you are its all about how good you are in the field you do. Good Luck

If I were you and had the money to live for a few years without working then I would rent out my home and travel the world for at least a year or so, it would give me plenty of time and space to think about what I really did want to do. Good luck whatever you choose.

I think you need a complete break. Sometimes getting away gives you a chance to think things through. You don't have to travel halfway around the world. Just a change in scenery for a month or so would probably be enough. Walk around the coast of Cornwall or something.

With no experience in anything else you'll probably have to get a lower paid job!
Get out and go travelling. Especially if you have enough to live on for a bit without working. You'll regret it if you don't and you're young enough to start a new career when you get back.
Good luck and have a great time!

Sorry to hear you are so unhappy, thats the key really, if you aren't happy you wont be doing your health any good and i think you have to put yourself first.

Perhaps have a look around on the internet for other jobs around your salary, you may perhaps find one for 2 or 3 thousand a year less but you may be alot happier and healthier for it.
