why is there no hair on the lip, or in the ear area? why is a human's fingernail flat? it's apparently genetically beneficial. many genetic traits are tied to other traits on chromosomes that were determined many generations ago. adaptiations take place throughout time. humans dont need fatty rear ends, nor hair on most of our bodies, but it's still there from the past. i could get really theoretical, but i'll keep it simple for now.

Probably a retained trait from when we had a common ape ancestor, and before. Imagine having hairy palms and trying to grip tree branches. I doubt whether you would last to adulthood, so the hairy palms were lost.
