speaking from personal experience, i'd say 'yes'. i'm much better now, but a few years ago i had a nervous breakdown, and i found that my short term memory was affected quite a bit. i'd have problems remembering whether or not i'd locked the door, or switched the oven off - silly things like that. i mentioned it to my doctor, and he confirmed that it was a common side affect of depression. i guess your brain is that busy trying to cope with all the other sh*t that's happening, that it just can't keep up with the everyday mundane stuff that u usually take for granted.

i would say yes. it's poss that a memory defecit can cause depression,my 7 year old has an average IQ but failing in school, this has been diagnosed as a memory problem which in turn causes him to have bouts of depression. most of the answers agree that depression can cause memory loss, but also memory loss can cause depression. so yes there is a link.

I think so. I have suffered with depressions and when I get them my head is like a sieve. Some people who get depression really badly can forget really important stuff like picking their kids up from school or going to work. All you focus on is the negative feeling or cloud in your head.

Well when you're depressed you have trouble concentrating which can obviously affect what you remember. That's all I'm aware of.
