Well, like the dwarf guorami and the rosy barb, only male bettas seem to be sought after as pets, for their more colourful and showy fins. Most of the time, people do not even consider the female bettas until they intend to try hand at breeding. However, since bettas are so popular the world over, I don't think it will be too difficult for you to get a female betta if you ask your local petshop or check out your area for breeders who could help you get started.

Firstly, they're ugly. They lack the colours available in male bettas, and they don't have the long fins that some male bettas do.
Secondly, sometimes it can be a trade secret on how they keep and breed the bettas. So, they'd rather discard the females than to sell them to the public. They don't want their prized bettas to end up in the hands of an inexperienced breeder.
If you really want to have a female betta, you may have to "special order" it. Request it from your favourite pet shop. Or better yet, find a reliable breeder and get one from them. The last thing you can do, is to find a small village pet shop. Sometimes, they will sell the female bettas, if they are breeding bettas themselves.

Some areas of the country stock only certain fish. That is because there are different suppliers for different regions. Female bettas and fancy tail bettas (delta, moon, round) are very easy to come by in my area. However, discus and other cichlids aren't as common, we just get the run of the mill assorted cichlids and oscars.

male and woman bettas DO wrestle. keep them separated, not in any respect positioned them mutually (except you're breeding them and that takes weeks of arrangements, bettas are not to any extent further guppies, you want weeks of careful creation, and a TON of kit to maintain all the male fry alive). also each desires a minimum of 5 gallons with heating and filtration.

You could always try ordering them. I haven't had a problem finding them at Petsmart or even Walmart. If you have a local Petsmart or Petco, ask them to order one for you. Good luck.
