Polititans seem to be trying to make it so.
American type patriocism scares me a bit and I see alot of problems with it.
Is the problem just me or do others see potential problems with people being overly proud of their country no matter what?

I do love Australia I just like to love it a bit more quietly.

Move to the UK we will never be as patriotic as any other country - racist may be - but certainly not patriotic.

But you are right the American-style patriotic fervour is slightly frightening and can be a catalyst for all kinds of misadventures viz Iraq. It also seems to be infectious among our political leaders who long for a neo-con world view; I am thinking of Blair and Howard particularly. These two must rank as some of the most fervently poodle-dogish politicos in the history of Anglo-Australian-Yankee relations and shame on them.

Won't ever happen here. We're not as gullable as the americans. They believe if you question integrity of the govt. that's disloyalty and a betrayal of the military.
Here in Australia I can honour our soldiers. But I wish to hell they were home not defending an illigitimate war.

I figure with Australians taking over the world, as soon as they are finished with Canada, they will move on into the U.S. I never worried about Australian patriotism, I figured we would eventually be required to sing 'Waltzing Matilda', hopefully with complimentary bottles of Wyndham Estates wine.
