Very good point. It's because of the way the media is controlled.
There are far more relevant and news-worthy things going on right now, but the news channels prefer to plaster 'Jade Goody is a racist!' all over our TV screens as if that is the most important thing in the world. Sickening.
It makes you wonder what they're hiding.

Obviously not much exciting happening here in UK. If Big Brother is the highlight and in the news , newspapers every single day. It is a shame that simple things like that can excite and fascinate people , there are more important things they could highlight but it will be to boring for most people. I have noticed that things that happened years and years ago are brought to the attention of people time and time again. Never good news, always bad news, helll, i dont read the newspapers anymore . I agree with you , throwing filth around is more important than people risking there life's for their country's. It is a shame. I wish you all the best and wish your son the same. Take care , i know what it is like having a son so far away and in dangerous conditions. Take care:)))

I was just wondering this morning what young people actually care about these days. When I was in my mid to late teens we were very politically aware - we were against the poll tax, we boycotted South Africa and supported Lech Walensa in Poland. Now it seems, that despite all the terrible things going on in the world - global warming, terrorism, war, famine and exploitation - all people care about is soap operas, z list celebrities and reality TV. The difficulty is that unless people stop buying celebrity gossip magazines and stop watching these shows, it will continue, because the media will say that that is what we want! It's a vicious circle and I, for one, can't see a way out. We have finally seen the result of dumbing down and it's not pretty.
P.S. Hope your stepson comes home safe and sound.

I agree with you that the country has gone totally mad, but then again that does not make your personal pain about your stepson being in Basra a lot greater than that of people who may feel they are being victimised by these programs.
What you need to understand is the media simply reports what catches people's attention and frankly the whole of 2006 was dedicated to the war in iraq, terrorism etc.... and still no solution!
it's about time we all heard something a lot more lighthearted, that wont depress us when we turn on the telly!

I couldn't agree more. My son will be on his way to Iraq from his base in Germany soon. I am sick of hearing about channel 4's problems while the very difficult job being done by our troops in various parts of the world seems to go largely unreported, unless that is, Tony Blair pays them a visit for a quick photo opportunity.
How can total nobodies like Jade Goody be of more importance or more newsworthy than the events in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. As a nation, we really have got our priorities all wrong.

Quite right, it"s gone crazy.
Bring back the old TV shows like
The Black and White Minstrel Show.
Love thy Neighbour
Jim Davidson and Chalky
These were truly entertaining programmes that will never be seen again because of Racism Laws and the P/C brigade.
When Channel 4 get all this publicity when our boys are being killed in an illegal war, is absolutely disgusting.

Instead of having crisis meetings over racist comments (although it is questionable that Jade was racist) why don't they have meetings on how they can improve the shiite they put on our box for us to watch? I mean Big Brother (celebrity or non-celebrity) is getting so boring, it's been running for years now, it's time they came up with something new. Create new comedies. I'm sure there are so many talented wannabe film makers, actors, costume designers who could put some really good quality programmes on tv for us and they would die for a chance to do it. Look at Drama students at Universities, loads of them, so there's no shortage of new talents.

Completely agree with you - it is all complete over the top nonsense and there are far more important things in this ciuntry to worry about.
What angers me is that fact that we have an NHS in crisis, a home office that doesn't work and a war on terror and what do the government spend time concerning themselves about? Big Brother. It is madness and and shows how incompetent our leaders have become.

A lot of people have been indoctrinated not to have a brian above the next holiday, designer clothes ect. For those of us left who are capable of thinging above those things this country has become a crisis area. What can we do apart from complain, we are constantly told that our opinion counts but only if it dosn't realy matter.
