It is often also called a peak (but this isn't the technical term). If you want to be correct, you refer to it as a crest.
PS: Jerry P is wrong here. The maximum is not necessarily the crest (consider the fourier analysis of compound waves). Here's an example for you, Jerry P, to demonstrate what I mean. If you have a sinusoidal wave existing in a gaussian envelope you will have only one (or maybe two if it is symmetrical) maxima, but you can have many more crests (technically infinite crests when you perform the fourier analysis).
