Yes they are, and men's only clubs are sexist as well
This is not to say, that I feel either are wrong. I think there is a healthy purpose to immerse yourself in the company of those of your own gender (keep the sniggering homo remarks for when I'm not being so serious:))
And the women's only gyms, especially serve a purpose to provide a woman a place they can be comforrable about themselves as well as focus on 'working out' than be made to feel like they are in a singles club by guys (and women) who treat co-ed facilities as such.
However, I have the perception that many women want to have their own "female-only" establishments while "breaking the barrier of male domination" and becoming members of formerly male-only establishments.
Sexist, to me, is to discriminate, to limit based on gender.

I dont think that a womens only gym would be sexist. Gyms for woman are like that to best suit a womans needs verses a mans. Alot of woman dont feel comfortable with there bodies and wouldnt like to work out in front of a sweaty drooling man when they are excersizing. I think it is advertised as a "womans only gym" so that it will make more woman with self insecurity issues to be drawn to that particular place. Its like a nail place... we see it as a womans only place but a man could still come in there any time and get a manicure. Sexist to me means opposing the opposite sex (being against them). A strictly womans gym is not against men- just specializes in a womans body, health concerns, aerobics, meals and curriculum.

nope, because it's giving women a place to work out without men. And it's no different than a men's only gym, except of course that it would be for the men. Sexist to me basically is remarks coming from a man like "get back in the kitchen/bedroom where you belong" or from a woman who says "Guys suck, all they want is sex and they don't want to get to know me". The latter statement may be true for her encounters with men, but there's no need to place that stigma on all men just because of a few bad apples. And do I REALLY have to explain the first one? LOL New age people, new roles!

No, its not sexist. It allows the women to be comfortable around only other women. Sometimes women may feel intimidated when a man is around.
The same can be said for men.

I don't think a women's only gym is sexist if it is a club. If it receives public (ie, shared government) funding, then yes it is sexist to any male who pays into public funds (ie, taxes) and is excluded from joining if he wishes to do so. Same way for men's only clubs--it plays both ways.

No, not really. I don't attend boys' night out events or go to men's clubs. I still think men and women should have their space and private get-togethers. Men don't really belong at baby showers and tea parties in the garden. They usually don't crochet and drink tea with rum at slumber parties. It is not as if society is so segregated. I would worry more about job opportunities, pay and daycare for working mothers.

Yes they are. But don't tell that to a feminist. Everyone wants equality, but nobody wants to point out their own hypocrisies. When the day comes that the only things kept seperate is the Bathroom, then we will be equal.
