the state when you realize that you are only a part of a huge system, a grain of sand in a beach of reality, what would it be?
I was thinking maybe "enlightment", but I dunno, maybe you can think of a better word?

unity.

p.s. I fail to see how this state of enlightenment described in the question is somehow even remotely being considered as the person, any person, therefore being inconsequential, etc ...

on the contrary, it's marvelous to know that you, your life, your very existence is ESSENTIAL to the larger whole.

The beach of reality would be greatly diminished even with one less grain.

Keep taking away grain after grain ... and then there's no longer a beach. Each grain of sand is ESSENTIAL to the whole.

Making this realisation is an epiphany, but that is not the word to describe the state you are in. I would describe it as your cognizance of inconsequentiality.

"humbled" [reduced to a lower standing in one's own eyes] might apply, as in "humbled" to seeming insiginificance.

i also agree that "inconsequential" is entirely appropriate in this context.
