I do not think any sane person would be totally without fear when facing his own eminent demise. However, I've known people with terminal illnesses who, once they'd accepted the eventual outcome, appeared to be quite calm and peaceful during their final days/hours/ minutes before their deaths. It was their friends and relatives who were emotional and distressed during those moments.

I think that peace or acceptance might have come to Saddam as well. In fact, it was reported he had told his lawyer he was ready for his execution a few days before it was carried out. Additionally, I think he knew he was being carefully observed and he did not want to appear shaken in the eyes of his people, his adversaries and the rest of the world.

I do not think he was much braver than the average person facing the same situation but certainly not less so.

I donot consider him as the best leader but he was a brave leader of his country, come what may or who may, he stuck to his guns! That would have given him strength to be fearless.

Being a dictator, he eleminated his enemies and brought peace to the rest of his people during his tenure. I some times feel, his regime was better than the present one, in which hundreds of people are loosing their precious life, every day, under the disguise of war against terrorism.

Had he adopted diplomacy ...

* he could have saved his country and the lives of many of his country men, Americans and their allies.

* the fate of many families would have been different since, 1990.

It happened in the history when the innocent people were suffering due to the arrogant leader. Unfortunately, the present world is caught between many such leaders!
