Get something inexpensive to strat out with. Get a Gibson Epiphone*. For the guitar and the amp it will run you just under $200.00. I don't know if you have a place like The Guitar Center where you live. Go somewhere like that and they will hook you up.

Your first guitar should be something that is in your budget. That's about it. You're not even sure yet if it's something you are going to stick with. I started on a guitar from a Sears catalog. I now own 4 electrics(Les paul, Strat, ESP, and a Casino) and 2 Martin acoustics. So you have lots of time to get better gear as you improve. Practice as much as you can. Really try to develop your ear. I've seen many local people who learn from tab. They think it sounds right cause that's what the tab said, but to a good ear it sounds like ****. Work hard and practice much and have loads of fun and patience. You can learn.

You should start off with a crap setup, then when you get good, move onto something better. You'll be amazed at how much better you sound when you play with the good gear, and it stops you spending too much on a guitar you might not play in the end.
Not too sure about lessons, but if you're really having trouble finding them, take a few minutes to learn how to read tab, and teach yourself. I did that, and I've been playing since I was 11. So if an 11 year old can manage it, I'm sure you can too!
Good luck with it x

As a starter you could start with a pack, you know the ones with an amp already? It wouldn't really matter what kind of guitar but a versatile one would help a lot like a stratocaster (the most versatile of them all) start humble and patient<---- I'm dead serious it helps

but as an advice if you wanna be ferociously good in guitar i would suggest to start of in classical after a couple of years your fingers will be very fast then after classical you can go to electric and all you have to practice is the is your picking and that would take very little time

Well, you have to find which guitar suits u the best. There are many electric guitar manufacturer that produced a very good guitar such as "Fender Stratocaster","Gibson SG","Ibanez", "Jackson Flying V","Rickenbacker" and so on.
If you want a cheap but quality guitar,I suggest that you buy a Squier Stratocaster and Epiphone SG.....
About the lesson, you can have a tutor to teach u to play guitar. If u can't afford this, then u ask someone, maybe your friends to teach u to play or u buy a guitar coursebook which u can find in every musical instruments' shop.........
As for me last time,I bought a Gibson SG guitar just like Iommi's SG,expensive but worth it.I play with it for around 9 yrs already,n until now it is still in good condition....

The best buy for a beginner (if you are really lucky and find one) is a Squier (Fender subsidiary company) from the late 1980s made in Japan - they're still out there for a reasonable price but collectors are starting to buy them up so hurry - it will be as good a guitar as you could hope for.... has to be a made in Japan one as the Korea/ Indonesia build ones are inferior (tho still better than most budget guitars) and the Chinese ones worse still

Get a cheap one to start. I play the classical guitar and boought an electric to try it. Didn't really take to it too well, so I was glad I only bought a cheap one. There are loads of electric guitar tutors in the Yellow Pages.

Look for a schecter...they are Very well built guitars. Excellent value for the money. You will not be dissapointed. I own several as well as some expensive Over $1000 guitars (Gibson Les Paul,Fender American Strat). I like the Schecter, better. You can get them in the US in the $300 and up range. You should be able to find them in the UK. Go to their website and look up UK dealers.

Buy the best guitar you can afford & try out a few different ones if you can. Even if you can only strum a couple of chords, you'll be surprised how different guitars can feel. When you pick one up & it hugs you & you don't want to put it down again, that's the one!

I would strongly recommend that you go to a knowledgable Guitar store. There is a great one online and can be found at http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com

You can email them online or call them for advice. They are very helpful and have great deals on a massive range of guitars.
