I always wondered that too. My sister-in-law used to say a dusting and a cleaning and I never quite knew what she was talking about. But being a man, there's no reason why I should.

Dilation and curettage. (not sure if I spelled it right)

The cervix is dilated with a series of expanders. Then the lining of the uterus is scraped out with a curette.
It can be a 'nicer' way of saying an abortion, but it is also a common procedure to decrease heavy periods, get rid of endometrial tissue, etc.

It is a dilation and curettage. where the cervix is gently dilated and tissue on the uterine walls is removed. Usually after a miscarriage but is also done for hormone imbalance or fibroid disease diagnosis.
