Russia wouldn't ask to return Alaska back, after all, it has been a while (long while) since it has been sold off (1867), and Russia has enough land/ resources as it is. They don't need to go through the hassles of shipping across the Arctic ocean; besides, all of the resources that can be found in Alaska can be found in Siberia as well.
It's probably worth in the billions somewhere, don't know. It was sold for 7 million at 2 cents per acre. According to an inflation calculator, in 2005 dollars it would be 25 cents per acre.
It's 570,380 square miles in size, which is 3.6504174 x 10 to the 8th power acres (36,501,740 acres), so multiplied by 25 cents it would cost 9,125,435 or just 9 million. It was sold for basically nothing; now it's worth at least 1000x more not even counting improvements and infrastructure and the real estate on it. So my guess would be about 20-30 billion, assuming it was ever possible to?

Russia could ask, but the U.S. would refuse. No, that would not become a reason for a third world war.

If, however, the U.S. were for some reason to agree to sell the state (which would not be possible under our current system of government anyway), a fair asking price would have to take into account that the original purchase price was $7.2 million, in 1867 dollars. Now, taking inflation into account and factoring in the vast improvements that have been made to the land since then, today's purchase price would have to approach the neighborhood of a billion dollars or so.

man, if world war 3 starts over Alaska...
you know, anything can happen, but in the realm of probability which we inhabit, no. alaska was purchased from russia fair and square, and alaska does not hold nearly enough value for russia to start a fuss over it. there are plenty of other, more effective ways to start world war three

First, off, it was a legal and binding deal. If any nation asks for territory which was negotiated in trade, then the US should tell them to step off.
