Yes. Happened to a friend of mine that was interviewing for a loan officer position at a bank.

Bad credit can keep you from getting a job but do not kiss the opportunity goodbye yet. You applied to work in a school. It would be different if you were applying to work at a bank or financial institution. The fact that your student loan is not paid off at the age of 22 is normal and it should not be held against you. The fact that you are working on your credit is a good thing. A lot of people learn the dangers of credit the hard way. As long as you make regular payments and do not slip into credit trouble again you will be fine. The employer must provide an adverse action notice if your credit report information affects their decision not to hire you. The fact that you have bad credit does not mean that you should stop looking for a job. You need to work to get out of debt. It may be a little harder to find a job and fix your credit, but you can do it if you really work at it.

Yes, some companies do credit checks on their prospective employees now and a really bad credit report can prevent you from getting a job. Usually for jobs where you are going to be entering credit card information from customers.
Not all employers do this. You will know when they do this though because I believe that they will need to have your written permission to do so. At least I know for sure that they do if they are using an outside agency to aquire your credit report.
Take care.

That happened once that I heard about with my husband's old job. They handled very expensive equipment and I guess the employers thought someone who was too far in debt may be tempted to steal.
I thought that was terrible. How are they supposed to get out of debt if people wont even give them a chance? What if it is from medical bills???
Good luck with the job!

Yep you sure can, I was!! I applied for a night desk job, and they did a credit check and I was not hired, it's stupid yes, but after I asked my mom why they would do that she said " if you have bad credit your looked at as being likely to steal ect blah blah blah" It's dumb I know.... I think honestly it's discrimination and how the heck they get away with it I have NO clue... Good Luck!!!

Ummm, I don't think sooo, lol.
It's when they do a background check from previous employer's that might keep you from another job. If that were the case, half of North America would be out of a job! i've never heard of someone NOT getting a job for this.

In some jobs you can. If the job involves credit card information or handling money, they may think you would be tempted to steal to get out of debt.

I say hold employers balls to the walls on anti-discrimination law or labor law.
