We as the United States of America were founded on principles. Principles such as Freedom of Religion. Why is it then we can not and will not and do not tolerate muslim religion? We have a person who is running for President and also a Senator who swore on the Quran. America is outraged that we would allow such a thing. Why wouldn't we? Or is it religious freedom so long as you bow and pray to our God or a God that we accept? Freedom of religion in this country is an absolute joke just as All men are created equal stated by men who owned slaves! I can't wait for you holy rollers and bible thumpers to sound off your intolerance for this question.

I think we're going backwards when it comes to religious tolerance. It's getting to the point where you can't even talk about tour own God, whatever it is, without offending somebody, so you can't do it at all.

It may sound scary in this time of terrorism, but there's no reason why a Muslim can't hold office, including President. That's what freedom of religion is all about.

I just want to add a little fuel to your fire here... during the last election our dear President Bush was asked his views on religion (Wicca in particular).. the following excerpt was his response:

"I am committed to the First Amendment principles of religious freedom, tolerance, and diversity. Whether Mormon, Methodist, or Jewish, Americans should be able to participate in their constitutional free exercise of religion. I do not think witchcraft is a religion, and I do not think it is in any way appropriate for the U.S... to promote it."
So, Apparently any "non-mainstream" way of life is subject to attack and will never be accepted in a grand fashion.

i became raised in an atheist family contributors. because of this, i believe I actually have a large style of a similar questions as you. I actually have a dozen responses to each little thing you wrote. right it is what stands proud the main in my head. a million) technological information, for many individuals, does no longer do adequate to answer the deep desires of human beings. do we study how human beings have progressed by the years? confident. yet how do we discover ways to stay with know-how, forgiveness, compassion in direction of our enemies, and peace? for many human beings, a non secular course is mandatory. 2) All religions are imperfect tries to hook up with God/ The Spirit. there is no choose for any human beings, no matter our faith, to combat over what ideals are "ideal" or "incorrect." i do no longer think God/The Gods particularly care lots approximately whether we believe the "top" way. the secret's to love totally. 3) My Muslim and Jewish acquaintances ( and that i) do certainly believe in same God. confident, there are disagreements, yet actual there is no longer solid clarification for us to kill one yet another over them. we've lots greater in undemanding than no longer. thank you for sharing your perspectives and asking the question. Peace.

I'd say we are quietly condescending, yet tolerant... until it forces people to change their way of life. apathy is the choice of the new generation.
