The mountain carving of Crazy Horse in South Dakota, absolutly!!!! The carving its-self and the story behind it are so inspiring and totally awsome. It should really be the 1st wonder of the world. One man, Korczak Ziolkowskiwas comissioned by Indian Chiefs to do a mountain carving because they wanted the white man to know that the Indians have great heros too, and he believed so much in their dream that he started, alone, to make the mountain carving. He sculpted a model of how it is to look and today, long after his death, his wife and 7 of their 9 children are carrying on his work. It is so huge that the sculpture of Mt. Rushmore fits in the head alone. It is being carved in the round (three sides) and is a sculptor of Crazy Horse sitting on his horse with his arm out stretched and his finger pointing to the east (the reason being that when taunted by a soldier after the Black Hills was taken from the Indians, he was asked "Where are your lands now, Crazy Horse"? He pointed toward the east and said "My lands are where my people lie burried") This whole project is being done with money donated to and earned by the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. They turned down government funding to protect the integrity of the project. It is an absolutly wonderful thing to see. We live in Oregon and have been to se it 3 times and will be going back again. They have several really good DVD's on the whole project from the beginning to today---- "Dynamite and Dreams" and "Drilling and Blasting" E-mail: memorial@crazyhorse.org I hope you persue this. It's really something worth seeing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
