it must go by length try using windows movie maker 2 and encode it to a different format or try seeing if there are settings on it with nero there are different lengths which sometimes dvd's see for example a cd holds 90 min and a 4.7 gb dvd holds 2 hours of dvd video if your file is larger than 2 hours of video data then yes its possible it's to large there are different length settings you can burn to a dvd normally the max. is 6 hours i've seen some that compress up to 8 hours

obviously a 700MB movie will fit on a blank DVD since you can hold around 6 movies of that size as long as you are burning it as a data dvd. i think you are using the wrong settings in the software you are using (roxio). if you are trying to burn the movie in its .avi state only then make a data dvd but i fyou want to watch it on a dvd player that doesnt support divx than you will have to convert the move to a dvd format before burning it with roxio. there are free programs that convert divx movies to dvd out there.

Interesting.. thats a wierd one..
Well I think you r gettin the settings wrong..
You shud make a data DVD and ensure that you have set the settings to write a DVD n not a cd!
Otherwise you can try to shift to Nero..
Its a great DVD burning tool with an easy to use interface..

Try using Nero and set the settings to compress and burn the file(s) into a 4.7gb disc.
