I had watched the latest franchise, Forest Whitaker had done a great deal in bringing back the show to life.

...but all I get from the critics online was this 2002 version lacks the quality of the original.

anyone have any thoughts?

I think this 2002 version is the best among the best.

I really liked the 2002 version. When it first aired, I watched every episode and I was addicted. I was so glad they remade it with current actors. I loved seeing the different actors every episode. Plus, the storylines were entertaining. I wish they still made that show...

I watched the first few eps, and wasn't that impressed. I only came back just to watch the "It's Still a Good Life" follow up story to the original series "It's a Good Life".

Out of the new versions, my favorite is the TZ series from the 80s. The first season alone is loaded with great stories. I own that series on dvd, and watch the marathons for the original series on sci fi (know those eps by heart, don't need them on dvd :)
