I don't know if anyone is aware but there is going to be a new law going to the senate about children under 3 years of age can not be spanked in public. The consequence is that anyone caught doing it will serve 1-3 years in jail and a 1thousand dollar fine. How can they tell us how toraise our kids . Maybe I'm wrong on the facts but I just want to know. The first 3 years are what train kids. I hope america is ready to take away from all the rest of our problems to pay for children who have no discipline. Your answers please. For or Against

What is this, Crazy Town? Now they want to tell us how to raise our kids? The problem today is not enough direction and discipline! Now they want to to make it worse by telling us not to enforce our parental role in public. Every day gives ten more reasons to go buy a ranch in Mexico while this country destroys everything it was.

A child under 3 is not able to understand things. I don't agree with that law, but then again, a lot of parents cannot make the difference between spanking and abusing a child. I'm sure we all got spanked, yelled at or sent to our rooms and we turned out just fine.
The sad thing is that a lot of parents cannot control their kids. I know that being a parent is not an easy job and children don't come with a "User manual" either.
What really frustrates me is the fact that people bring their children to bars - there is no need for a kid to be in a bar/restaurant at 9 pm on a Saturday! If people want to go out, they should get a babysitter.

I agree thats why we have so many mixed up kids now in this world and some who grow up to be not great citizens i don't mean you have to mistreat the child or abuse them but a good spanking now and then i feel should be appropriate. you should see the kids today out in the malls telling older people to f off or flip them the bird or have purple hair and disregard all signs or authority. its terrible. the parents have no control or say and the kids no this even the kids tell there parents if you touch me i'll tell someone. so what is a parent to do. okay dr. phil says take away there toys thats great when it works on a child that wil listen but many of these kids need a firm hand and a disciplined parent.

it is the dumbest thing anyone can do. why and how can the government control how to raise our own kids. you are right, those first 3 years are when the kids learn the most and get trained. i say that if they do it, kids will become more spoiled and act a lot worse. they will grow to be people who go to jail or do stupid things because they think they can get away with anything. best thing is to whip them, either in public or in the home. at least they will learn not to do it anymore.

I'm against it because I resent govt intrusion like that, but having seen some "parents" punch or kick their kids in the grocery store over the years, I certainly see how it came about.

Then again, my parents raised me that if I was in public, I better behave or they'd send me out to sit in the smelly old Pontiac station wagon, and once we got home, I'd get my butt tore up. Never got a public spanking... after the first few times left stewing in that hot car and then a good whoopin at home, I learned to behave in public.

good grief

you have seen the reason why in a few of these answers, some of them don't believe in spankin, alltho they do believe in discipline, for cryin out loud, I would wager money they don't even have kids, and if they do, they are young spoiled rotten little carpet commandos, kids do not come with owners manuals, and they are all different, the simple solution is this, now follow close, I disiplined them hard, and loved them three times as much, one is now studing medicine, one is an engineer and the youngest is still in high school, say what you want, you have to bust their lilass sometimes to get their attention, the prisons are full of your "Little spoiled ohh dont you dare spank my little Johnny" turds, do what you want, just leave me and mine alone.

nuff said.

Well, if it beomes law, what can you do??? Then spank them in private!! Children must be spanked when necessary but of course, it must be done right....always in love and never in anger; always gently tell child why he is being disciplined; never with the hand cos' that is used to love and always always love. Bible says, spare the rod and spoil the child!! And in Proverbs, it says to spank to drive the 'evil' out of him!!

i believe this only applies to California. I think this law came about because some parents don't know the difference between discipline and abuse.

I am against it.This is the reason why American kids are out of controll. At 12 years of age they drink,do drugs and have sex.Too much freedom early on,too many privileges.
