Practice practice practice. even the most talantted artists in the world have followed those three words. natural talent is a gift, but it means nothing with out practice and application.
take a sketch book with you wherever you go, and then draw whatever catches your eye. people talking, a single flower, a bird in flight, a childs toy. whatever. take ana rt course and stick with it.
And dont get discouraged by failures or by naysayers. if art is your dream pursue it. Hard work and determination are the keys.
with practice, stick figures become portraits, and eventually maspterpieces.
Good luck with your future artwork, you budding artist you. =^_^=
PS added a linky to an accredited online art course. check it out.

It's a lot of both...You have to be born with a gift ...and a desire.
If you have that within it's a talent that has been hiden. Bring it our by surrounding yourself with art..Study art, practice.....study and practice some more....read art history...art books and go to art galleries and museums... Get in touch with local artist in your area that are willing to share with you what they know..There are several types of art that don't require as much natural talent as other skills...It's like singing...some people can't carry a tune and others are in the opera....Just believe in yourself and If you really have the talent it will blossom...get lots of drawing pads and or sketchbooks and draw everything you can...keep a journal of your art..different books for different mediums...until you find the medium that you can master...then you will be a master!

i am pretty useless as an artist but with lots of practise i am a little better, other members of the family just seem to be natural and paint, draw some amazing 'pictures , so i guess you have to be born with the talent

I think you don't necessary have to be born with the talent. If you have the determination to be great you'd be better then those with talent. =] The more you practice the better you get. I'm pretty much like that too!

It boils down to 90% hard work, 10% talent even if you are a Pablo Picasso or Michelangelo

most adults must re-learn and practice to become artists. Van Gogh actually devised several divises to help him practice scketching for his art work. Our child like minds like art, but as we grow older our adult minds dismiss a lot of what childern consider art!

Beleive in yourself and in the art that you create is unique, what lies within your mind may well transcend anything that you have ever seen.
