if you can get to your nearest FEDERAL courthouse (US District Court, not to be confused with state court), go to the clerk's office, they should have a terminal where you can log onto the PACER system, which is the database for all federal court cases...you should be able to find some details about charges etc.

Probably depends what kind of information you are looking for. If it is a relative and you need to know his/her whereabouts or incarceration status, you could probably call the U.S. Marshall's Office
