Religion, as we know it, or are taught it, is a 'mechanism' for laying down certain moral 'truths' while we are growing up - depending upon the society we are born into. Many cultures do not have religion, or faith in a supernatural being, and still have their fair share of political, social and economic integrity. We learn our 'righteousness' from parents, schooling and the social mores of the community we grow up in. Often, this includes religious indoctrination - a 'fear' [of God or Allah or Yahweh or whatever] that we euphemistically describe as moral teaching. I do not share this view - many Chinese, for example, live perfectly righteous lives without fear of religion, in fact without having a 'taste' of it at all. Confuscians and Buddhists live a morally envious life without needing a faith based driven learning curve first..

We are a society of laws. Our laws should be inspired by a desire to do good as our Creator intended. Our obedience to our laws must be tempered by our overall belief system. But the equal protection of those laws cannot be dependent on whether someone believes in Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Wicca or the Chicago Bears.

Well, I see what you're getting at, but technically the old testament is full of Kings that were annoited by God and reportedly had God's assistance in slaying enemies. (In one case, the leader was in big trouble because he was commanded to strike down every man, woman and child in the village and he was trying to show mercy!
My old bible study teacher used to say that the old testament was "Physical representatins of spiritual truths". (I'm sure that will be controversial to the literalists out there; sorry).
Personally, I like your viewpoint.
Lets just say that some relate more to the methods of the old testament depictions of God!

I think the ten commandments will cover your question. Even though the elite dont buy that they are included in them I believe they or no one else is immune to any of the creators laws.
