If so, how long was it before you found out what that purpose is? It’s just, I’m in my early 20’s, and I still don’t know what my purpose in life is yet, is that normal? Shouldn’t I know what my purpose is at that age?

Some people never realise what their purpose is. Sometimes you are not meant to know what your purpose is. I'm in my late 20s and several times I have discovered what I thought my purpose was but then things went wrong and so that obviously was not my purpose!! I think the only thing we can do is live life and live it well and maybe your purpose in life will become apparent instead of you searching for it

We all have an impact on each other just by being alive. From the moment we are born we are part of the butterfly effect that makes human existance. Therefore purpose sometimes is not as easily defined as saying 'You will do X, Y and Z to achieve A!' Also I believe more specific purpose is defined by you as a character. Some people will get up and goo right from the start of their lives, some people will wait until something specific happens their 'Moment of truth' before they do anything, others will just react to things that go on around them kind of just 'drifting' along.
The short answer to your question is we all have 'purpose', but because of some people's nature that purpose can be harder to define!

No, I don't think we have a purpose. At least not one that is imposed on us by a higher power or that 'fate has decreed for us'. However we can decide what our purpose is to be. Like Crime fighting for example :)

Actually that isn't as flippant as you may think. Take the case of Batman. His life was turned upside down by a tragic event. Rather than let it crush him he pushed on and made something of his life. In a way, the things in his life gave him a purpose. But it wasn't fate. Take a look at any of the 'alternative lives of Batman' books. Or the ones that deal with what would have happened to Bruce Wayne in another centuary, some of them lead to him having quite a mundane life.

And don't worry about not knowing what to do yet. There is so much given to us nowadays it's ridiculous to think that anybody can REALLY know what they want to do with their lives till their mid 20's. And I have some friends in their mid 30's who STILL don't know what they want to do. One or two of my friends did know at age 14 what they wanted (in one case, to work with computers, be married and drive fast bikes) they had a direction. Good for them. It took me until I was 27 to really know. And I've only kicked into it in the last 5 or 6 years.

Just be happy doing whatever it is you are doing. If something interests you, follow it. If you don't like what you are doing, change. But don't sit where you are if you are not happy.

Good luck.

Yes, every life has a purpose! Most of us won't recognise it, won't know what it is: unless you search and seek the answer which you are looking for now! Some think the purpose keeps changing at different stages of life: but the purpose is one underlying all your efforts, all the moments in your life! It is some times known as 'Dharma"! You may not know that at your age or at any age, unless you think hard, seek, meditate (in the right direction!): good luck!

There are differences between "purpose" which is the notion that you have some specific predetermined "reason" for existence, and just finding your strength or passion in life.

It would be wonderful if we could all make our "passion" our vocation.

My life's passions are creating music and sensual pleasures (food, sex), but my vocation was in manufacturing, and that was only because my original job field was overloaded with applicants; so I chose another field that paid well - one which I felt I could tolerate.

As yourself what you love doing most. That's your passion.

Then ask yourself what is the easiest thing for you to do; that may end up being your vocation.

Each and every living human kind has a purpose of life not just "All for the Money " in planet of apes.
Since you are still a long way from home.
That is a good start for you in planet of apes.
The purpose of life is to find a piece of question with those "Three little words" on "who are you" left behind by our creator for each and every living human kind to come up with an answer for their ticket home which is vital for the survival and advancement of living human kind in planet of apes.
The problems is Batman is blind as a bat hanging upside down still living in caves in planet of apes.
If you don't want to live in caves than better start searching for the question and come up with the answer vital for your own survival and advancement of yourself in planet of apes.

There is no purpose to life, so don't worry about it. Purpose is for another day. Just concentrate on living your everyday life here and now. Purpose is for prophets and advertisers, who are essentially the same shysters.

No, there is no special purpose for each person. Some rise above the mundane to achieve fame or notoriety but thats not because they were destined to do it.

Live life, take care of family. friends & yourself. That's all you have to do. If you need more, then go out & find what you want to do.

We are here because we are, and there is no grand purpose that each person has, unless it is merely a biological one, to reproduce. That's it. No grand scheme, no glorious purpose. Stop searching and just live your life.
