Hello, south coastal BC here.

Check if there is a local gardening club. That is really the best start together with some good books.

Really excellent book for any level of gardening is by a US author is "Garden Primer" by Barbara Damrosch. I've recommended to many people. I refer to mine all the time - can't remember everything!

You need to know your zone. Mine is 8B. But I believe you are a little cooler. UBC used to have a web site re: gardening. Web is also good place to find your local gardening club, if interested. Many exchange or share their plants for free.

(BC growing season is the longest in Canada by the way).

Book is available from Lee Valley Tools. Lee Valley is a candy store for gardeners. They have a web site you can order from. I don't think you have one out your way.

Have fun. The season is approaching fast!

WOW How lucky are you. You live in a beautiful part of the
world. You should talk to some local gardeners, but I think
you have a short growing season, so you mainly have to start
seeds in your house and have them ready to sow in the
garden after the first frost which might not be until April 1 eh?
Visit a local hardware or farmer's hang-out and get a catalog.
Find out what zone you're in. Plant some veggies for next
winter. What's the temp. there now?
