You should probably ask a doctor because that's a pretty big change for someone your age. I've had lots of changes over the years but nothing that drastic. Mines always been heavy for the first few days, then lighter on the last 2-3 days. There were years where it lasted 6-7 days, then other years when it lasted closer to 5. It's always pretty much followed the same basic pattern except for the first few years when it was heavy all the time (from ages 11-14) Bad cramping and other annoying 'symptoms' only began when I was around 16 and there has been no major change in the past 12 years (I'm 28 now).

The only thing I have noticed is that it's gotten a little lighter with less cramping the past few months but I have been on 2 kinds of medication since then. I think my meds have changed things. I know change is normal but it's best to ask a doctor just to be on the safe side. It's probably nothing to worry about though.

Im not sure exactly why you had such a change in your flow, but Ive had the same problems. Im only 18 but when I first got my period 4 years ago, it was extremely light and only 4 days as well. I know have the exact same situation with heavy flow, a super tampon every hour or so. Im sorry I dont know the reason of the change, I wish I did, for my sake too! Just letting you know you arent the only one out there! I would definitley recommend talking to your doctor tho, to find the real reason for the change. She can also prescribe you to some sort of birth control pill thats right for you, that will help lessen the flow of your periods and usually make them last for shorter amount of time as well. Good luck!

there's nothing wrong with you. i was 11 when i had my first menstrual cycle and after like few months i had really heavy flow. the same thing happened about 8 years later. I have seen a dr everytime this happens but she said nothing was wrong with me. she said it's due to hormonal imbalance...you can take sum birth control pill prescriped by your dr to reduce the flow. but don't worry it could be nothing.

It might be the change (menopause) or a fibroid or cyst....may need a D and C if it persists - go get a GP check up to be safe
