Yes, a complete waste if someone got it for personal use. Even a server won't require that much of space.

NO, there aren't any 3,000 GB drives available now so you must mean a 300 GB drive.

I have two of them, one I use for my data and the other to serve as my backup and a third drive to hold my Operating System and programs.

But, then I am a very visual person and I have a lot of pictures. I also do a good deal of writing, and I plan on opening a website. Currently I have only filled 1/4 of my hard drive, but then I lost most of my data in a computer meltdown last October. Once I have the website written I will be holding it and doing all my work on it with the version stored on my hard drive. In the meantime I plan on getting more images and writing more. So for me it is worth it.

It depends on what you plan on doing with your computer. If it is only a gaming machine then you don't need all that space, unless you have every game published. If you have a lot of data then it would be a good idea.

Hard Drives are the most stable form of media we currently have. Information on them lasts longer than on a CD, DVD, on a tape drive or on a floppy drive. This is because the drive is sealed from dust and inside the machine it is not exposed to magnetic or electric fields that could harm your data.

In my experience what you need to do is isolate your data from your programs. All Windows versions are destined to die a horrible death on your computer, unless you reinstall them once every year. Even then you could get some wonky program, a virus, or even a messed up update from Microsoft that will corrupt your machine. Once that happens you might not be able to access your data. I had that happen once so I keep my data on a separate drive. The last time I had a failure I didn't have very good backups and I had a power surge that messed up my data drive.

It all depends on what you use the computer for and how much data you store on it. My program drive is only an 80-gigabyte drive and it holds Windows XP and over 30 programs. Still I am only suing 1/4 of that drive. I can install a lot more programs with no problems. But, if I kept all the data I have on it then I would have already run out of space.

3000GBs???? Do you really mean 3000GB? or 300GB? I use multiple 320GB hard drives to store data. But depending on what you use your hard drive for that much space could be overkill. I always recommend getting what you would typically use x 2. Then get two hard drives of that size so you can use one for a backup. If you are not concerned about losing the data eventually than forget the backup drive.

yes absolutely.. what are you going to do with all that space.. i can't even fill my 100 GB hard drive up even if i tried.. sure if you download A LOTTTT of music/movies/games/etc. then possibly up to 500 GB is ok but 3000 is just out of control.. no point in making such a thing unless u have an insanely huge program that takes up some massive amount of hard drive space

Unless you intend to illegaly download songs and rip DVD movies to the computer, yes a complete waste. But it won't be a complete waste in about 5 to 10 years!

They loaded Lord of the Rings, Return of the King on an IPod, so it might be a waste . . .
Unless you are doing payroll for IBM or something.
What are you going to do with it ?
