Most countries honor the translator by giving him/her credit on the book

DEFINITELY. Lets assume the translation is really bad and as a result, someone in a foreign nation sues you for what you wrote. By giving credit to the translator, you make him responsible for any bad translations done. If you fail to give him credit, he can always come back and say he did NOT do the translation and what proof do you have?

Also, some translators are considered more accurate than others and have a good reputation in the publishing business. Having their name on the product helps get the book published in another language as the publisher knows the translation will be accurate.

Lastly, translating is not all that easy. Letting the person know their name will be on the final product is a cheap "pat on the back" and will encourage them to do a better job. It could also be the start of a long term relationship.

I believe it is normal practice for the translator's name, title, professional accomplishments, educational background, other translated works, etc. to be mentioned.

Indeed, if this translator has translated numerous other important books, articles, etc. and eventually becomes famous, it will add to the prestige of your work!!

of course! do you lack integrity? the least you can do is acknowledge him in your book for the help he did to you.
