They are basically movies from Indian actors - not red indians but actors from India. It is quite a large industry there, and is very popular in the world. The industry employs many people and many movies are put in the circuit every year.

Its like Hollywood, but a spin off. probably the largest movie making industry in history. maks really realllllly realllllllllly incredibly sappy movies. no bollywood movie is complete without a girl running behind a tree while singing. main plot of movies is usually this: guy loves girl, girl hates guy, end up falling in love with guy, long story short, they get married. yay!

THE BEST KIND!!
Naw, but they're very romantic and very EMOTIONAL
In fact, most of them are like musicals, but it's usually not annoying.
My Recomendations, should you ever decide to see one:
1. "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai"---- VERY ROMANTIC!! OMG!! It's about a man who finally notices the woman who loved him all along
2. "Khabi Kushi Khabi Gham"--- Family Film ---- Has a mix of romance and family values, ALSO GOOD
3. "Lagaan"---- EPIC FILM--- Nominated recently for an Oscar (Best Foreign Film)--- about the inspiration and determination of the Indian (of India) people to prove themselves despite the oppression of the British
Check some of these or others out---See if you like them.
It really changed my perspective on the foreign movie industry.
At first I thought they would suck, but now I'm stuck!

Indian movies. It's the Indian version of our American movie-making Hollywood. Their movies are usually musicals.

not all indian movies are "bollywood movies"
there are several other ".......wood movies" like "tollywood movies", "kollywood movies"......
The movies that come from maharastra(a state in india), with "hindi" as their language...r the bolly wood movies.
the origin of this name is from hollywood.
