.

Screensavers were actually created with the idea of saving the monitor and some power. The monitor has many pixels in it and the pictures and videos you see on the monitor are displayed by burning the appropriate pixels with appropriate colors.

At first it was found that when computers are not used, the pixels are being burnt with out any use losing the life of the monitor and power supply. So screen savers with dull colors were created to avoid this. But now-a-days, screeen savers has become a trend to just show off some pictures, graphics or animation, but they are not actually saving anything.

If you really want to use a good screen saver, just choose one of the default screen savers available with the OS itself. Dont use the screen savers downloaded from somewhere.

Screensavers are only there to make the screen look pretty when it is not in use and serve no real purpose.

To save on power turn your monitor off when your not at the computer and this will also help with keeping your monitor run for a longer time.

You can also change your power settings to turn the monitor off after 10 minutes if you so choose or shorter time.

Yes. It can save your screen. With your screen on it burns an image in the screen, the longer it show the worse it gets. it would take a while, depend on the type. A screen save will have and image show up in different locations on the screen as to not allow burn-in of the monitor.

Screen savers used to keep a static image from burning into CRT monitors. CRTs got better and people still wanted they eye candy that screen savers had. Now with LCDs there isn't any reason to have a screen saver other than something to look at.

Only if you're using an old monitor: it's a holdover from when leaving something on your screen would "burn" the image into the phosphor....nowaddays, they make them better, and LCD and better monitors don't "need" a screensaver.
But we all like the flying Windows logo too much to change.

Newer monitors/flat screens do not need a screensaver. Waste of time IMHO.
