It seems like I have an excessively heavy flow... nearly uncontrolable. I use super-plus tampons and change them about every 2 to 3 hours.. does anyone else have this problem?
I'm thinking about going back on birth control, will this help?

I've had problems with heavy flow, too. Mine was so bad at one point that wearing tampons was pointless. 2-3 hours is not terrible, though. To be considered a "very heavy period", you would have to soak through a pad or tampon every hour for six consecutive hours.

BC can help, though I believe only one is approved for use in controlling heavy menstruation. That is Mirena - the hormonal IUD. Unlike the copper IUD, it doesn't increase cramps (it decreases them). Around 20% of women who use it will stop having periods most of the time. You probably wouldn't be in that category; I'm sure not! Insertion is done in your GYN's office; some offer local anesthesia. They last 5 years with no maintenance - just checking for the strings every now and again.

Lots of things can contribute to heavy periods, and more often than not the exact cause is never pinpointed. Most of these causes are not critical, but can include obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, and fibroids. If you discuss your concerns with your doctor, he or she will probably prescribe a few tests to rule out the few causes that are worthy of concern. These might include a pap smear and ovarian/uterine ultrasound.

Don't worry. Stress, of course, doesn't help anything. Good luck!

The thing you need to do is go to the doctor. That's not really normal to have that heavy of a flow. Birth control might help but I'd still recommend going to the doctor, just in case it's something serious. My cousin had a very heavy flow and ended up having to have surgery.

if you menstruate for only 3 days, i suppose that's ok. but if the flow is heavier than i imagined, go to your gynecologist. :P

It is better to consult a doctor. These things must not take as otherwise. You should be serious on that and consult a doctor
