yes, i did during the first four months. Then when the baby was able to rollover, push up very strongly , support his head and sit up. i felt comfortable letting him sleep on his side/stomach. i started slow by laying with him while he took a nap and watched his breathing pattern very carefully. It took a while before I felt comfortable letting him sleep on his stomach. I admit i still get up periodically and roll him on his side.

I guess it just boils down to mother intuition, no one knows your baby better than you.

Nope, he won't sleep like that. I put him down on his side, and within ten minutes he's usually rolled onto his stomach and has his arms and knees up under him so his butt is sticking up in the air.

He's almost a year old now, and he's slept like that since about 3 weeks old.

BUT you should always put a new baby down on their back because of the SIDS risk. Every pediatrician will reccomend it, but sometimes you just have to give it up and let the baby sleep how they want.

Always on their back never cover the head with blankets etc, if really cold you can use a cap to cover the head and ears also make sure that there is no cot bumpers either side of then just in case they roll over it is unlikely for a newborn but it pays to keep this practise up .Baby cot bumpers are like cushions around the wall of the cot ,it is said they can cause SIDS,sudden infant death syndrome.a baby nurse may give you more information best of luck bye.

I started putting my babies down anyway they wanted since
my five month old died of SIDS and she was on her back. In my SIDS group only a few babies died on their tummy and they were not deemed SIDS they were listed as suffocation, because that is suffocation not SIDS. Most of the babies were laying on their backs, sides, in strollers, in swings, etc. Suffocation is no longer on the same level as SIDS as it used to be. They have changed the way a SIDS death is investigated and now how they come to determine it was SIDS. A baby that dies from being face down in a crib, smothered by blankets or stuffed animals a crib, etc. is no longer considered a SIDS death it is suffocation. Suffocation and SIDS are not the same thing. SIDS is when an otherwise healthy baby suddenly stops breathing for no reason upon an autopsy. Suffocation is a known factor in a death so it is no longer deemed as SIDS. My daughter died on her back the same way she would have died if she was on her tummy, side, in a stroller, etc. Positioning of a baby has nothing to do with why they suddenly stop breathing there is more to it than that. I'll bet if they go back now since suffucation has been retracted from determining a SIDS death and see what the percentage is now of babies that die if placed on their backs it will not be that greatly reduced. I know more mothers of babies that died in lots of positions and the tummy is not one of them. I only know a couple of them that were on their tummy and beleive me this really irritates all of us in my SIDS group, because we did what we were supposed to and it happened anyways.

Yeah the pacifier theory as about as good as the back to sleep theory. My daughter had a pacifier in her mouth when she died, it fell out when she stopped breathing that is what caught my husband's attention. He noticed she was not breathing when he went to put it back in her mouth. Another "THEORY" that people are going to buy into that doesn't amount to crap.

I sure do! Even though, mere seconds after I place him down, he rolls onto his side and stretches out (too cute)!

There are a handful of young babies who won't sleep on their backs, and their doctors have okay-ed placing them down on their tummies or sides. However, I would get your baby's doctor's advice before trying so - might as well do all we can to prevent SIDS, right?

Hope that helps.
