Because society has reduced life's little blessings to something ordinary and even useless - and it has made life's little worries into a huge ugly monster lurking around every corner...

Actually not everyone does.
The issue is more like a scale and balance. Certainly we all moan, and stress over negatives, but the sense that things could be worse should also be part of our thought process.
Hopefully most people consider "blessings" even in the smallest measure, as "rewards" and yet so often we also tend to place "Blame" as negatives are concerned.
An old quote, karmic in nature maybe? "This too shall pass" is extremely relevent.

Actually, I'm not sure that I count either.
I take notice of and appreciate my blessings if and when I recognize them, but I'm not sure that I really "count" them.
As for my worries, I try to discard them, since worrying is unhelpful. If I can't control it, worrying about it will do nothing. Worrying has yet to make me grow taller!
God bless.

Hello,
A positive attitude always bolsters the spirit in a way one cannot comprehend. I guess if we continue to count our gifts, we end up having a happy fruitful day. Call it bigotry or lying to the self, but we cannot do away with the fact that having a happy day is way far better than its opposite.
When we count and think of our worries, we end up losing motivation. However, we should also take care so as not to be overly confident or boastful of ourselves because of our "gifts".
Thanks,
