Unions are close to being obsolete, but not because of the laws in place to protect employees. If it wasn't for unions, we wouldn't have most of the protections we have now. No, I think unions are fading away because they have lost the battle. The corporations control the politicians and the media, so the unions are pretty much powerless now days.

No.. Unions are becoming obsolete because American companies are shipping all of their business overseas or across the border.
The same laws that "protect" employees on our soil, sometimes give employers the incentive to move to another country where there are very lax, or no employee protection laws at all.

No. Most of the laws came about as a result of unions and labor lobbying. The greatest threat to unions is outsourcing, forcing American labor to compete with cheap un-unionized labor overseas. Also, is the fact of increased employment mobility. People are less and less staying in one job for the duration of their careers and as such have little vested interest in working towards better benefits/higher wages. It's predicted that our generation will switch jobs about once every twenty years or so in the globalized world.

Unions are pretty much a thing of the past. They hang on like a part of government burocracy and do about as much. If you have good people running the company, then a union is pointless. If you have pricks running the company, then the collective strength they provide can be benificial.

Unions are about as pointless as having eyes. Who really needs them? I mean sure, I guess we use them if we have them but...Seriously, who really needs them?
