The idea is sound enough. Employers should have the right to fire employees for whatever reason they want. However, there are usually procedures instituted by the employers, such as failure of a drug test or x number of written warnings given. The established procedures are used because it is a waste of time training new employees when a few minor corrections are needed to improve the current employee's performance.

I will grant that employment-at-will does not always give workers a fair shake; but for the most part it is a simple matter of the employer needing work done in a propper fashion. If the employee, can not or will not complete the tasks in the correct manor, why should the employer keep paying them?
