If you absolutely love this movie, I am not trying to be mean. I just saw it the other day and seriously wonder what was so good about it? There is always hostility between Katie and Hubbell and you just know they're not going to make it. Also, she is always so uptight! Jeez, couldn't she just relax for a bit?! Lastly, what reeeaaallllyyy bugged me was how, when she was pregnant, she would smoke and drink! What the heck was that?

If you really liked this movie, can you let me know why?

If you didn't like that movie, tell me how you agree.

It has been many years since I watched "The Way We Were" (it is now over thirty years old)

What I recall most (other than the fact that Redford was in his prime and so gorgeous - ahh that scene where Katie brushes his hair from his face) about it was the love scene between the two, it looked like Hubbell was asleep!

Personally, I would've put my political convictions aside for a future with Hubbell!

But really the movie was just a vehicle for two of the major stars of the time.
The tag line for the movie was:
Streisand and Redford together!!
That kind of says it all really. It wasn't a movie to be taken too serioulsy or to provide any profound political insight.
It was just a love story full of quiet yearning.

In retrospect, I loved the movie!

It's not the best movie you'll ever see but at the time of its release, Robert Redford was the pin up boy for us teen girls.
He and Streisand shared a certain chemistry on screen and the story gave hope to all girls who were not the" Prom Queens " of their class, that a good looking guy might just have enough substance to try to get to know a girl and be interested in more than just her looks.
