I have a 2006 MazdaSpeed 6 and was wondering if anyone has had any specific mechanical issues, or little "wish-I-had-known" things they have discovered? Also, has anyone run into issues regarding the cooling of the turbo? I'm just curious how long, and under what circumstances, I need to let the car idle after parking but before engine shut-off. Feel free to post any other FYIs related to this specific model (year doesn't matter). Thanks!

The OEM wishbone engine mount on the Mazdaspeed 6 has been known to be a weak link. One of the biggest issues is the OEM rubber which will tear with any kind of spirited driving. After consulting with many enthusiasts and Mazda dealers, Custom Performance Engineering decided to develop a replacement mount that will not break or tear.

The Custom Performance Engineering mount is CNC machined out of billet 6061-T6 aluminum and is designed to bolt into the stock location without any modifications. After much testing, Custom Performance Engineering decided to use a rubber for this particular application. Urethane will simply not withstand the extreme temperatures that EPDM rubber will. Custom Performance Engineering was able to use a more rigid and durable rubber therefore offering all of the advantages of urethane with a higher temperature tolerance.

I work for Mazda, the engine is bulletproof that is why it is being used in the CX7 and the speed3. It won Wards ten best award for 2006. The turbo needs to cool off ( below 2000 rpm or idle) for 30-45 seconds according to the manual

Nothing I have heard of.

I compliment you on your choice though! Great car.

You are smart to allow the oil to circulate for a minute or two for turbo cool-down after spirited driving. I would also suggest using fully synthetic motor oil and changing it every 5000 miles.

You don't really need to let the car idle after every time you drive it. The turbo isn't going to get white-hot going to the grocery store. The cool-down suggestion applies more to vigorous driving, like a run through some mountain roads with lots of downshifting, or some track time or any kind of prolonged "blasting around"

Routine driving does not require any special turbo cool-down period.

the possibility of smoke when driving, is a turbo issue. and a problem with clutch shudder as well. there is a download for the computer to lean it off at cold start up. and most importantly, never let it get low on oil, these engines spin bearings very easily when starved of oil, so make sure it is serviced at correct intervals.

These cars are really reliable most the problems discussed are resolved on the assembly line. The wishbone mount is filled with polyurithane not rubber and the turbo is ball bearinged so it doesnt require you to let it cool down...

There is no way an insurance company will pay for those repairs on a car with 71K on it. You are describing mega damage... This is a unibody car and it has taken structural damage on both ends... You don't want that car back after they repair it. It will not be the same.

Also did you know that the rear seats DO fold down? they are the same rear seats as in my Mazda 6. They just put a cover so you cant see the cross brace. but they WILL fold down.
