My son is three months old right now and i just noticed that recently his urine has a very strong urine smell to it. I noticed it when i went to pick him up in the morning! I'm just curious as to why it smells so strong!

If he is on antibiotics that could be why.

I had the same problem with my daughter right around that time. I agree you should take him to the dr, just because you never know, but I also agree that it is probably not very serious. Babies hit a growth spurt right around 3 months, and they start needing more liquids (only milk, of course). They start becoming more active and using more bodily water. My daughter's urine actually smelled like bacon for a little while, which worried me (and I even asked a ? about it on here, I believe!) :) But she is fine now, at almost 6 months. Try increasing your son's fluids, and take hm to the ped just to make sure, and he should be fine. :)

Also, it is worse in the morning for 2 reasons: 1) night tends to be the longest period of time they have gone without a diaper change, so it has more time to build up, and 2) night also tends to be the time when they get the fewest liquids.

He shouldn't be ready for juice yet, and DEFINTELY don't give him water without the doctor's instructions. Water can mess up an infant's electrolytes, throw their nutriets off, and even kill them if you give them too much. The dr could tell you how much would be okay.

Make sure he's drinking enough. You also might notice it more just because it's morning. Is he nursing? It might be that his urine is really picking up the food scents of what you're eating. You might want to try cutting out some of the stronger foods that you eat. If you're still concerned, you might want to call the advice nurse.

Have you made any recent changes to his feedings? Like, perhaps if you are formula feeding, have you changed brands? Or if you are breastfeeding, have you yourself been eating anything out of the ordinary lately?

I do think the previous posters make a good point about possible dehydration, though. Do check this over with your doctor, for peace of mind if nothing else!

Hope that helps.

Morning urine is always more concentrated. Sometimes something like iron in formula could affect it. Maybe, too, its just that he wets his diaper shortly after falling asleep and does it again - so the diaper just has more urine in it than the more frequently changed daytime diapers do.

Dehydrated -or-
He can be a state in which he eats many sweets? Having alot of sugar can cause dark(er) urine which can often smell.

feels like he might want to have a UTI (bladder an infection) - pass to the docs, get a pattern tube, and then take a urine pattern from him. (its always maximum perfect to get the pattern previously the well being care specialist says he needs one) Then take him, and the pattern, to the docs. they might want to be ready to have outcomes again interior of 24-28 hours reckoning on even as your appointement change into or maybe as samples are despatched to the lab.

Probably because he is n't getting enough fluids to dilute his urine to a normal way.

It is possible he has a urinary infection, which is unlikely but possible non the less.

Maybe it isn't the urine, but the reaction with the diaper.....talk to your doc to make sure he doesn't have an infection.

I think trying to give him some water once in awhile instead of milk or formula all the time ...it may help with the scent........
