Make sure all food spills are cleaned up. Add juice of one lemon to 2 cups water in a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup. Turn the oven on high and microwave the water til it boils approx. 2 minutes. If needed, continue boiling the water until the odor is gone.
Is your scrubbing cleanser approved for such an oven? You shouldn't have an odor after cleaning. A good wipe down with a clean wet cloth should do it with an occasional treatment with the above solution.

Buy a lemon. Cut it into quarters. Squeeze the juice from all the pieces of lemon into a microwave safe cereal type bowl then throw the peels in the bowl too. Put the bowl in the microwave and heat it for 1-2 minutes. Don't open the microwave door. Instead, just leave everything in there overnight. On the next day open your microwave and remove the bowl. The smell should be gone.
Good luck.

Yes VINEGAR! It is the best way to do it. It can take any rotten smells away. It's also way healthier than bleach. I've had a cat pee on a blanket and even when I washed it, the smell would come alive once moisture hit it. I washed it with baking soda and vinegar and it did the trick. I think for your micrwave, all you would need is the vinegar. You might need to unscrew it and take it apart to get to parts that are not just in the inside part of your microwave. There's the whole ventilation part of it on the other side of all the holes.

Yeah, unfortunately that is the case where I'm at now. KILLER. I did this to an old boss that ticked me off. I had become aware that water from a vase or pitcher that plants or flowers has been in for a while, stinks like decomposing fecal matter or something. I put it in squirt bottle and sprayed the "you know what" out of his chair and his carpet in his office. Needless to say...Revenge was SWEET!!! You would hear him cussing everyday trying to find the source of the decomposing dead rat or something. Made him not want to be there, EVEN TO EAT. Cheers to revenge:-) Remember if you are going the microwave route, this will stink you out as well. Be cautious.

I would try boiling a solution of water and baking soda until the microwave is all steamy, then just wipe clean. A good orange cleaner may also work.

Try putting a bowl with lemon and water in and heat to boiling. It will clean your microwave, and should help with the odor.I have the same problem with my George Foreman grill when I cook salmon.
