now when my dad was stationed in Cuba at Guantanamo bay i saw first hand what this trade embargo has done to the Cuban people. yes the fence is closed but we still had Cuban workers that would come to the base and work these people aren't as much running from Castro but because they were starving.

now before u say well Castro is evil when has that ever stopped us? we dealt with Saddam for 10 years after the war. we send food to Africa knowing that the war lords are going to take it. hell we knew Stalin was pure evil and yet we dealt with him on politics so why can't we with Cuba in fact Castro is dieing so he is no threat any more he has no backing from any one

It isn't just hurting the Cuban People... It is also hurting Americans.

Yes, the Cuban Americans are included. They are restricted from freely accessing & communicating with their motherland. Some Cuban-Americans harbor unnecessary and unhealthy bitterness for actions that happened during our grandparents' days...They need to let go of whatever was lost during the Revolution. If their Cuban ancestors had a fortune that was seized by Castro, then it was probably due to ill-gotten gains. If a wealthy American offers to buy the child of a poor African father, can it be considered a fair trade if the father was under duress and needed money to feed his other children? Does it make it right to sell children? Is it right for opportunities to buy 95% of the valuable real estate in a country for a fraction of the fair-market value just because the sellers were unaware of the global market that they had never been exposed to existed? Is there a mechanism to fairly compensate these displaced peoples?

Who knows.

But the average American Joe is also harmed by the embargo. While German tourists are living it up in Havana, smoking the finest cigars in the world, drinking the smoothest rum and soaking up sunshine in the land of the most beautiful women, Americans are forced to wonder and watch Buena Vista Social Club. While Europedophilia proliferates, American businesses are sued by the US Government for allowing Cuban diplomats to buy their products/services (eg: American-owned Scandic Hotels sued after Cubans visit). Shipping lines are banned from entering US ports for 3 years once they have docked in Cuban waters. How stupid is that? A Total waste of fuel and resources. Americans are deprived of a plentiful and proximate source of petroleum.

Sorry for this somewhat desultory philippic. I should probably go to bed (-_-)

Hopefully Cubans will be lifted from the burden of their 1200 calorie-restricted diet and stifled economy where it pays more to be a taxi-cab driver or prostitute than a doctor or teacher.

No dictator is great. No politician is great. No government is great.

But the USA is pretty darned good. Ronald Reagan kicked butt. Clinton kicked more than just butt. And Fidel is not as bad as Bush and the anti-Castro forces make him out to be.

The only reason the U.S dealt with Stalin was because of WWII. Stalin got screwed by Hitler so he would've helped anyone to take Hitler down. When the war ended, so did the relationship. Personally I think the embargo with Cuba still stands because the Bay Of Pig/Cuban Missle Crisis incidents. There was so much CIA corruption in both of those incidents that I think the American people would question trades with Cuba, etc. Also, it would admitting that our goverment messed up and let's face it, our goverment never admits that.

lesson the embargo is not working because Cuban economy has highest growth in Latin America 12 .5 percent, its just the the American cant admit that their polities in the the world is not working not in Cuba not in Iraq. the Best way is that leave the others alone and mine your bus sines. Cuba will prevail and Fidel will live for ever. USA will never take Cuba,
